What is God’s Word?

1) God’s Word is a person. It is God Himself, Jesus Christ, the Son of God. John 1:1 says: “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God” (NLT). It is important to note that we are dealing with a living person whenever we are engaged with God’s Word either written or spoken.

    2) God’s Word is the medium through which He creates everything and makes thing happen. It is a powerful entity that nothing can command or withstand. Genesis 1 shows us that the world was created by the Word. Everything God will ever do in our lives will be through His Word. In this case, it is our hope and future. It is important to note that God’s Word believed in our hearts and spoken with our mouths carry the same power to make things happen as if God spoke them. Isaiah 51:16 says: “And I have put My words in your mouth; I have covered you with the shadow of My hand, that I may plants the heavens, lay the foundations of the earth, and say to Zion, you are my people.” (NKJV)

    3) God’s Word is abundant life. It equips us to live in righteousness, faith, love and peace as against living in sin. The scriptures instil in us the values of Jesus Christ, enabling us to grow up to be like Him. John 1:10-12 says: “He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God” (NLT).

Why Should We Train in God’s Word?

There are two (2) important reasons why we need to be trained in God’s Word. (i) To help us become like Jesus Christ. (ii) To equip us for every good work. Good works are the things God ordained for each of us to do before the world began. It is the training in God’s Word that prepares you to do what God wants your life to achieve. While others are getting worse in unrighteous deeds, you will be able to live above sin; hear God speak to you; obey immediately; enjoy the support of angels; and discern the deception of Satan coming through to your mind.
